CHOOSING
A HOSPICE
Finding the best hospice to serve you and your family is an important decision. Beginning hospice care should be done sooner rather than later as research indicates patients may live longer with hospice care. Our team of professionals exist to provide support not only to you, but your entire family.
THE NON-PROFIT DIFFERENCE
Many communities have more than one hospice; some operating as for-profit agencies and some as
non-profit agencies. The quantity and quality of all services can vary significantly from one hospice to another. Non-profit hospices are community supported and therefore often offer an enhanced level of service that may not be found elsewhere. Visit Hospice Compare to see how
Hospice Brazos Valley exceeds standards and compare hospices in your area.
THE RIGHT
QUESTIONS
Asking the right questions is key to making the best choice. In the article, "How to Find a Good Hospice Program", Consumer Reports created the following list of questions of the most important things you should look for in a hospice program:
-
Not-for-profit status and 20 or more years of experience
-
Hospice-certified nurses and doctors on staff and available 24 hours a day
-
Palliative-care consultants who can begin care if you're not yet ready for hospice.
-
An inpatient unit, where patients can go if symptoms can't be managed at home.
-
Ability to provide care in nursing homes and assisted living residences.
-
Medicare approval in order for Medicare to cover services, including equipment and home health aides as needed, plus counseling and grief support for the patient and the family.
Hospice Brazos Valley welcomes the opportunity to speak to you and provide you with information about how we meet or exceed each of the above standards. Call us toll-free at 800.824.2326.
