Volunteer

Hospice Brazos Valley volunteers play an important role in non-medical hospice care and support of patients and families. Often referred to as "the heart of hospice," volunteers give their time and care with no expectation of reward except to know that they are serving others in need.

Patient Care Volunteers: To support patients and families directly, patient care volunteers must complete a comprehensive training course that addresses most aspects of hospice care while offering an opportunity for potential volunteers to determine the role they wish to play within Hospice Brazos Valley. As members of the patient care team, volunteers visit patients, provide caregiver respite, run errands and generally function within the hospice team to extend holistic care for patients and families.

Bereavement Volunteers: Bereavement volunteers are specially trained to assist with follow-up with bereaved family members and friends of patients served. Opportunities are available for volunteers to assist with the Kids Bereavement Camp, a day camp for grieving children, and other bereavement programs. Special volunteer training programs are designed for individuals interested in assisting with bereavement programs.

Office Volunteers: Office volunteers help in administrative or clerical capacities, preparing mail-outs, assisting with special projects, and participating where needed in matters not directly related to patient care. Other tasks include web page design, computer data entry, filing and answering the phone.

Hospice Thrift Store Volunteers (Bryan): Hospice Thrift Store, a successful resale shop dependent on volunteers, sells donated clothing and household items at reasonable prices. Volunteers sort, stock shelves and assist the large customer base. Proceeds from the shop support patients and families served by Hospice Brazos Valley.

Hospice Boutique Volunteers (Brenham): Specializing in fine recycled ladies wear and formal wear, the Brenham Boutique offers volunteers the chance to work in a small boutique sorting and selling items donated for resale. Proceeds from this unique shop benefit patients and families.

Hospice Happening Volunteers (Bryan): Hospice Happening, Bryan's annual fundraising event, requires numerous volunteers to assist in coordinating an event of this magnitude. Volunteers serve on committees that publicize, decorate, solicit sponsorships and donations and mail invitations.

Brenham Office Fundraising Volunteers: Brenham fundraising events require significant volunteer support to assist with publicizing, decorating, and soliciting sponsorships and auction items.

Construction Volunteers: Special ability in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and remodeling are valued skills needed to help with Hospice's various facilities and to assist in making patient's homes more safe and comfortable.

Hospice Auxiliary: A independent group of volunteers raise funds to support Hospice Brazos Valley in its mission of providing care to all regardless of ability to pay. Auxiliary members participate in fundraising through numerous activities and by providing general assistance for special events. There are nominal dues and regular meetings. If you are interested in joining the Hospice Auxiliary, please contact Susan Childs at 979-690-6373.
